- First my greetings to Asha! I hope she remembers me; I was on Fido for some
- months last year.
-
- Now to the questions - I don't know for the american distributor, but I can
- tell that Escom & AT are not bankrupt! (Well, not yet anyway ;-) ). Escom
- made losses last year of about 125 million DM (the estimate was about 45
- million DM). A German Bank (Commerzbank) gave a credit for about 60 million
- DM. Furthermore, the shareholders or other banks say they will a further
- 40 million DM. If I remember well, M. Schmitt (the founder) had to sell about 40% of his
- shares to help achieving this. Anyway, before that he had 49 or 50% of the
- shares, now he's got 30% left. M. Schmitt also offered to quit; this
- proposition will be discussed by the shareholders or the supervisory board.
-
- BTW: AT is present at the CeBIT with their surfpackage *and* the prototype
- of the new Amiga. Someone who was there told the following specifications:
-
- --------------------------------8<-------------------------------------------
-
- -68EC030 with 40MHz
- -2MB Chip, 4MB Fastmem
- -4xSpeed CD-ROM
- -Connection of a PC-HD-Drive is possible, which can read Amiga & PC format
- -OS-Version 3.2
- -Several expansion ports are planned, to which you can connect ZorroIII or
- maybe also PCI boards
- -two PS/2-sockets for max. 128MB FastMem
- -Price: DM 1500,-
-
- ----------------------------------------8<-------------------------------------
-
- The case of the prototype seems to be quite revolutionary: some say it
- looks very awful (like a vacum cleaner), others say it looks very cool like
- Colani design, someone said it looked terrible: like a US Mailbox on
- feet...
